Maize traders last week demonstrated in Kisii Town, lamenting over harassment from the county officers who they say are pushing them out their working area.
The traders, who engage in both selling and buying of mainly green maize by the roadside say the county has been unfair in their treatment, and now want to engage the county governor to help them sort out the issue.
They then demonstrated to James Ongwae’s office, saying the business is their only source of livelihood, and pushing the away will be detrimental to their lives.
This is not the first time traders in the town are lamenting, with other traders in the extensive Daraja Mbili market as well crying for help.
The traders say they have been sidelined by the county, and lack of enough space to operate from is a major worry for them.
The market is one of the biggest in the area and serves traders from as far as Luo Nyanza and other Western parts of the country.
