Majengo-Mwembe Tayari MCA Ahmed Khamis, popularly known as Nyundo, has been proposed for the position of leader of minority in the Mombasa County Assembly.Nyundo, who clinched the seat on a Ford-Kenya ticket, is the only member of the party in the County Assembly.Nyundo is said to have been proposed by majority of the members and is likely to clinch the seat once the assembly officially commences it sittings on Tuesday, September 26.The assembly has two Wiper Democratic Movement MCAs; Kipevu MCA Faith Mwende Boniface and her colleague Chaani MCA Junior Wambua.Mwakirunge MCA Feddis Salame Mbura who was elected on an Independent ticket after losing in the ODM Party nominations is also eying the seat.Her Shanzu counterpart Maimuna Salim Mwawasi is eying the leader of majority post.Addressing journalists on Sunday, Mwawasi said a showdown is expected as the female MCAs in the assembly will fight for top seats including chairs of various house committees.“We have a total of 14 women MCAs in the Mombasa County Assembly and six of them were elected in various wards among them Shanzu, Mwakirunge, Mtopanga Kipevu and Timbwani. We need to fight for these posts,” she said.The Mombasa County Assembly has a total of 42 MCAs majority of who were elected on ODM Party tickets.Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is expected to make his official address to mark the opening of the second Assembly on Tuesday.
