The residents blame their predicament on area leaders who they accuse of doing little to help them minimise losses they have been incurring over the use of the bad road. The residents who suspended all their activities on Thursday say that their businesses have suffered as well as most of their farm produce going to waste.

“My cabbages worth almost fifty thousand shillings went to waste because I could not take them to the market. I have a bank loan that I had taken to do the farming. I do not know what to do now because the bank is about to come for repayment,” says Patrick Yegon, a farmer in the area.

“They keep on telling us to do modern livestock farming. Now we have plenty of milk but it is all going to waste because the dairy truck cannot come to take our milk due to bad road,” Boniface Kisiemei says.

During the Thursday protests which ended at Solai, Rongai sub county commissioner Joseph Mureithi told the protestors that their concerns would be acted upon.
