A family in Karigu-ini village in Komothai, Kiambu has been left in shock after a mysterious fire gutted their household goods leaving the house roof and walls intact for the second time in less than two months.
The fire is said to have started at night as the family was preparing supper from a separate room from the main house used as the kitchen.
"No one was in the main house when it caught fire as we were all in kitchen for supper when a neighbour notified us that the house was burning," said Thomas Ngata Njoroge, the owner of the house.
Esther Wangari, a neighbour who noticed the fire, said she noticed a blue flame burning in the house dining table.
"I had come to collect my phone which I had brought for charging when I noticed a blue flame consuming furniture in the house," said Wangari.
Njoroge said the fire burnt furniture and clothes to ashes leaving the roof and the walls unscratched.
"This is the second time that kind of fire has occurred. The first time no one was around when the fire started but the neighbours put it off," he said.
Njoroge said the family is unable to cope up with life after failing to salvage any belongings from the house.
He appealed with well-wishers to offer a helping hand as the fire turned all their belongings to ashes including school uniforms for their children.
"We are appealing with the neighbours and other well- wishers to extend a helping hand as all our necessities have been consumed by fire," said Njoroge.
Though the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, locals believe majini were sent to burn down the house.
