The Kuria community yesterday vowed to support President Uhuru Kenyatta reelection bid in the October 26 elections. They said development projects being initiated by the Jubilee government in Migori county is an indication that Uhuru’s leadership is focused on improving the lives of Kenyans.
Addressing leaders from the Kuria community at State House, Nairobi, yesterday, Uhuru thanked them for voting for him in the August 8 election, saying he is committed to ensuring communities perceived as marginalised get services.
“I would like to thank you for the votes you gave me in the August 8 poll. I thank you for electing two Jubilee MPs in your region,” said Uhuru. He assured them that more projects will be initiated saying his administration is focused on delivering services to Kenyans.
“The Jubilee government is keen on ensuring that all Kenyans get quality services. We will, therefore, continue ensuring that Kuria residents do not lack the essential services that will help uplift their lives,” said the President. He said it is for this purpose that his government has created two more sub-counties of Mabera and Ntimaru. He added that administrators for the new regions will be posted next week.
Uhuru also said in two weeks, the government will send Water and Irrigation Cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa and his team to explore ways of initiating Sorore, Kebaroti and Kegonga water projects. “On health, we will ensure that we put up clinics in each of the four sub-counties,” he said.
The President welcomed the support from the Kuria leaders, urging them to mobilise more votes for him to ensure he wins with a bigger margin in the October 26 election. Deputy President Ruto thanked Kuria residents for supporting Jubilee and assured them that the government will complete development projects it has initiated in the area.
“As we speak, the bridge for the road connecting Narok and Kehancha has been built and soon, the construction of the road connecting the two towns will begin,” he said. MPs Mathias Robi (Kuria West) and Marwa Kitayama (Kuria East) thanked the President for transforming Kuria region by initiating major infrastructure projects which include the upgrading of Isebania-Kehancha, Kegonga-Ntimaru-Guitembe and Taranganya centre-Kehancha roads to bitumen standards.
“We will continue supporting President Kenyatta and Jubilee because of the projects that have been implemented in our area in the last four-and-a-half years,” said Robi. Meanwhile, Uhuru’s campaign tour takes him to five counties.
Today, Uhuru is scheduled to start a campaign blitz that will take him to Kisii, Nyamira, Nyandarua, Meru and Mombasa counties in less than a week. The President will kick off his meet-the-people tour in Kisii and Nyamira counties tomorrow to woo voters.
In the August 8 presidential polls annulled by the Supreme Court, Uhuru garnered 106,894 votes (52.07%) in Nyamira while in Kisii, he got 175,415 votes (43.22%).
On Friday, Uhuru returns to Meru before joining Catholic faithful for a National Prayer Day at the Subukia Shrine, Nyandarua county, on Saturday. From Nyandarua, the President takes his re-election campaigns to the Coast region on Sunday. Last week, Uhuru visited Busia, Bungoma and Kakamega
