The Kenya film industry has received a major financial boost after the agreement of a Sh20 billion credit facility between Spain and Kenya.
The money will help promote local films that tell the Kenyan story domestically and internationally.
The project has been named Sinema Mashinani and is being carried out by the Kenya Film Classification Board (KCFB) and will be piloted in Isiolo and Kisumu prior to its rolling out across the country.
According to KCFB Chief Executive Officer Ezekiel Mutua the Spanish government has assured that the money was available and the board and the national treasury are currently discussing how to tap into the credit facility.
The CEO is confident that Kenya will soon be at the same level as Nigeria which well known for its media making.
“Kenya continues to receive international attention due to her beautiful film making locations which are largely untapped and we want to take advantage of that to sell our stories and attract other film makers,” he said.
