The County Government of Uasin Gishu through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources has engaged 115 casuals in a clean-up exercise in Eldoret town and other major towns of Burnt Forest, Moi’s Bridge, Turbo, and Ziwa.
Speaking on Wednesday in a spot check at Eldoret Market, County Executive In charge of Environment and Natural Resources Mary Njogu said the exercise is expected to run for ten days.
She said the casuals were engaged to mainly clear huge heaps at major social places within the county.
“We engaged the casuals in a Rapid Response Initiative (RRI) to help expedite collection of garbage within the county’s major towns," said the County Executive.
The exercise comes at a time governor Jackson Mandago-led administration is working on creating awareness dabbed "Together we can make Uasin Gishu clean" aimed at ensuring that the environment is safe, clean and healthy.
Recently the Governor Mandago led his administration’s delegation to Norrkoping, Sweden to finalize an agreement with Swedish investors on the establishment of a recycling of solid waste in Kipkenyo Ward.
The project apart from crushing the solid waste will also be able to produce electricity that will be routed to the national power grid.
