Nairobi County is set to begin demolitions of buildings marked dangerous for occupation.
The operation will be conducted after an audit by the National Building Inspectorate revealed that388 buildings in the county were structurally unsound.
This comes after a five-story building collapsed on Sunday in Huruma killing three people.
According to Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, his administration wouldn't allow corrupt individuals endanger the lives of people by putting up substandard buildings.
"It is unfortunate that this morning we lost lives of people after a house collapsed inHuruma area. I want to condole with the affected families. We shall hold all county staff who have been frustrating the demolition of these buildings accountable," he assured.
Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja cited a failure on the leaders who allowed such buildings to be erected.
"We can’t keep doing the same thing and expect different results. In 2016 when another building collapsed in Huruma and took lives, a raft of measures was agreed on including demolition of buildings unsuitable for habitation. These buildings are still up. They must come down immediately, "he tweeted on Sunday.
