With the government banning demonstrations in CBD, a major confrontation is looming, with NASA demonstrators ready for the battle.

Early Friday morning, GSU Lorries were seeing ferrying officers to the CBD, with reports indicating Uhuru Park will be sealed off.

Through the interior ministry CS Fred Matiang’i, the government banned the demos from the city centres to protect Kenyans and their property.

“The Government notifies the public that demonstrations shall not be allowed within the CBDs of Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu. The Inspector General of Police has been advised accordingly,” he said.

He added: “In accordance with Article 254 (4) of the Constitution and pursuant to the powers accorded to me by section 22 of the Public Order Act, I will be gazetting regulations that will govern the conduct of public processions and demonstrations,”

“I assure Kenyans the Government has no intention, whatsoever, to claw back fundamental rights and freedoms of Kenyans. But we shall not allow a few Kenyans, while purportedly exercising their freedoms, to infringe on the rights of others,” Matiang’i said.

This came after the latest demonstrations on Wednesday, where looters stole and looted from business officers in the CBD.

The opposition on the other hand have maintained that their demonstrations will go on as planned, adding that it is their constitutions right.
