The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has kicked off a major voter registration drive in Bahati constituency aimed at enhancing voter registration database in readiness for the next general elections, 2017.
According to Bahati Constituency IEBC Voter Registration Chief Officer, Isaac Makali during the opening of the exercise at Umoja Primary School in Lanet today said the exercise the drive targets youth who have acquired National Identification Cards and others who are not in the register.”
Makali clarified that the drive was not politically motivated but an independent normal activity and programme of the national elections body. He added that all parts of the constituency would be covered before the end of this April.
“This is a normal activity among our national elections strategies programmes.It is not politically motivated because IEBC carries out its programmes continoiusly according to its calendar. We will cover the entire constituency on grassroots level because we know there are many youth who are 18 years old and it is our duty to register them as voters because it is their democratic right,” said the IEBC officer.
He added that reaching out to voters at the grassroots levels, the commission would promote voter registration and voting among Kenyans.
