A majority of Maseno University students have been forced to seek accommodation in the neighboring towns or Luanda and Lela after all houses in the town were occupied.
This is due to the high number of students in session this semester.
A spot check at major rental houses revealed that all of them with the town and its environs had already been occupied by students.
According to those who missed out on accommodation, they have no choice but to look further the town before settling down for studies.
“I’ll have to try Luanda town because since Tuesday I have been looking for a house but so far am yet to find one, classes are about to begin and I want to fully focus on the studies,” said Patrick Ogolla, a student.
The students, speaking to HiviSasa.com on Thursday, said it is going to be a tough semester for them because the costs to be incurred will increase.
“If I manage to get a house in Luanda, the cost of transport will have a great toll on my pocket because I don’t earn,” said Annabel Osuna.
Almost all the continuing students missed accommodation in the institution after all available spaces were handed to the first year students. The affected students are calling on the institution to be considering accommodation spaces available before admitting any students.
The local community and investors have been urged to come up with rental houses to save the students from the pain of going to other towns to search for accommodation.
