Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has lauded the Athi River town-based Export Processing Zone Authority for providing jobs to thousands of women.

Makau said the parastatal has employed more than 20,000 women from Machakos, Kajiado and Nairobi counties thereby providing livelihoods to many families.

He thanked managements of both EPZA and the hundreds of individual industrial companies which have directly offered credible jobs to the women.

Makau, who addressed the press in Athi River town, said most of the women are employed in companies that deal in textile for export, such firms lead in terms of numbers within the zone.

He equally appreciated efforts of the companies employees especially women who were committed in their work to ensure that the companies they work for achieve their daily production targets.

There are also men who work at the zone though women outweigh them in numbers.

Makau encouraged more investors to establish production ventures in Mavoko constituency so as to provide more job opportunities to the locals, not only women but also the youth who are many in numbers.

He urged the zone’s management to speed up construction of a road connecting the parastatal to Athi River town through Makadara shopping centre to allow for quick opening of the proposed new main entrance enable employees residing in Mavoko to easily access it.
