Makau Mutua’s application for the the Judiciary’s top seat; Chief Justice has been rejected by the Judicial Services Commission, narrowing down those in contention to just six candidates.
Through a press statement on Tuesday, JSC Chair Margaret Kobia said they finalized on the six names after reviewing the applications of all the applicants.
A distinguished law scholar, Mutua submitted a 71-page CV to support his bid, but many of the political analysts immediately ruled out his bid, saying his initial stance on matters governance were his greatest undoing.
Mutua is known for his controversial weekly opinions that he pens in both the Nation and Standard newspapers, and will be remembered for his famous quote in 2014 where he said he doesn’t recognize President Kenyatta.
“As a matter of freedom of conscience and thought, I can’t accept Uhuru Kenyatta as President of Kenya. I can’t and I won’t,” he wrote.
The following are the names of the six candidates shortlisted for the race to replace Willy Mutunga;
