More than 300 Children in Kiandutu slums, Thika Sub County, have been introduced to a new holiday learning system in the past one week which have helped them acquire life skills.
The programme dubbed, make children strong, camflage the education with sports.
Speaking in an exclusive interview the founder and organiser of the event, Martin Lothar, said the event was not really for enjoyment but it was a mixture of education, sports and fun.
“We do not teach the children the same way they are taught in class hence they do not view it as part of class work,” said Lothar.
“We have coaches who teach them on the life skills in a language they understand well. This is very much informal apart from the normal class they go through day to day in their school life,” notes Lothar.
He said that the event has gone ahead to unite children from able families and those from less fortunate.
He said that communication is the key thing in life and children need to learn to socialise with all people at tender age.
In the past one week they have been taught on respect, integration, abiding by the rules, caring for the environment, leadership and fair play in soccer among other life skills.
Lothar said he has conducted such programmes before in Gachororo in the last holidays.
