At least 132 women and youth groups in Kangundo Constituency, Machakos County have received Uwezo funds to economically empower themselves.
Addressing the groups which received the money on Monday, Kangundo MP Maweu Katatha urged the groups to make good use of the funds so that they can improve their lives.
“Use the funds allocated to you for the right purposes. Do not take a loan to pay school fees. Remember, you are expected to pay the loan,” advised Katatha.
He further urged the beneficiaries to immediately start businesses so that by the time they are expected to repay the loans, they will have already made profits.
Speaking at the same time, Machakos County Women representative Dr Susan Musyoka called upon the women to manage their finances.
“The amount allocated for each constituency is little and cannot be enough for all groups at once. I ask those who have not received the money now to be patient because you will be given priority next time,” assured Musyoka.
Uwezo fund is a flagship programme of Vision 2030 aimed at enabling women, youth and persons living with disability to access finances for business start-ups.
