The former allies now turned foes, have been having major differences a move that led to the governor to form his own party, Chama Cha Mashinani.

The two leaders are both founders of the URP party.

And on Monday, former North Mugirango MP Atebe Marita said the DP risks losing supporters to the governor if he doesn't mend fences with him.

“I am one the supporters of the DP but I am worried with the increasing rebellion in the Rift Valley. Sadly, he seems disinterested and continues to belittle his opponents, something I find suicidal,” he said.

“The Bomet Governor is a real threat given he has strong roots in the South Rift region. The DP should find time with the rebels and chart the way forward. He has been in politics for a while and poses a real threat towards the DP’s 2022 ambitions,” said he former MP.

He said the planned merger of URP, a Jubilee Alliance affiliate with other smaller parties could give the Mashinani party a boost given many people opposed to the merger ideologies in Rift Valley may shift allegiance.

“If URP is disbanded, then the people’s alternative in Rift Valley will be Mashinani party. This is how people grow politically and that could be the undoing of the DP,” he said.
