Speaking during a talent show event at Sunrise Teachers Training College in Athi River over the weekend, the institution's manager, Peter Mwanzia, said most private institutions were not safe for students.

Mwanzia said such institutions had poorly planned structures with most of the important amenities missing, including simple gates.

According to him, that exposed the students to lots of insecurity challenges, arguing that some would be attempted to sneak out of institutions for own personal reasons.

He said security of students lie on the hands of teachers but all depended on how well owners of institutions invest in them as far as providing certain facilities were concerned.

Mwanzia proposed that students' hostels be well protected under grills and burglar-proof doors to minimise instances of breakages and intrusion by those with ill motives.

He condemned owners of institutions who do not comply to educational regulations stipulated in legislations before investing in the industry and whose institutions do not meet requirements set by the educational board.
