Dr. Moses Ogola has challenged Kisumu County parents to take their children for vaccinations as required of them at given ages.
Speaking at Russia Hospital at a medical briefing and enlightenment, Dr. Ogola challenged parents to be taking their young born children to various vaccinations such as; oral polio vaccine birth dose at two weeks, 6 weeks, ten weeks and lastly after fourteen weeks after child birth.
Measles at 9 months, Yellow fever vaccine at 9 months, vitamin A capsule given orally after six months, sequentially up to 5 years of age.
Dr. Ogola noted that child vaccinations was very important as it protects them from getting affected which could otherwise interfere with their normal body structure.
He also observed that some parents were unnecessarily concerned with either not taking their children for vaccinations or not going at the right timings.
“Vaccines are recommended for every young children because their immune system are not fully mature and because their stomach produce less acid, making it easy for ingested bacteria and viruses to multiply,” said Dr. Ogola.
He noted that once the infants are vaccinated, they develop an active immune response to the bacteria, an immune response that prevents these bacteria from entering the bloodstream and causing harm.
He emphasised to parents that they should not allow such diseases cripple their children simply because for one reason or another they did not take them for vaccinations at proper timings at various health centres.
He added that there was a detailed report that revealed that most parents avoid taking their infant for vaccinations asking them not to be avoiding taking their young ones for vaccination.
“Let us protect our infants’ well being by taking them for vaccination at proper times to protect them from various viruses,” advised Dr. Ogola.
