The Makonde people have been assured that they will be issued with identification cards in time to register as voters.

Late last year, the Makonde who hail from Kwale were assured of identification cards after official recognition by the government as the 43rd tribe in Kenya.

The group has been stateless since independence.

Coast National Registration Bureau assistant director has said that the cards will be ready before the February 14th registration deadline.

"We are going to issue the cards simultaneously in both Kwale and Kilifi counties. We will visit the different places this people and give them their cards,"said Aggrey Masai.

The Makonde people were assured of registration as Kenyan citizens after visiting State House.
