Makongeni Chief Daniel Waiguru has called on residents who may have applied for national Identity Cards and are yet to go for them to check them at his office first saying he has a bulk of uncollected ID cards at his office.
Speaking in his office on Thursday, Waiguru said that the ID cards were forwarded recently to his office where residents can collect them from easily.
"As you know the national voter registrations is about to start and an ID card is a requirement for one to be registered as a voter. I am therefore, calling upon all those who applied for ID cards recently to consider checking for them here," said Waiguru. He said that a list of names of applicants whose IDs he has received will be stamped at the office noticeboard and asked residents to keep on checking regularly.
"A list will be out by tomorrow (Friday) and recent ID applicants can start checking out their names. We will keep on updating the list as we receive more ID cards," he added.
The Chief noted that it is a right for every citizen to have an ID card to be able to carry out their civic duties without any hindrance.
"Let no one whose ID is here miss out on voter registration and blame us later for not informing them on time. It is their right to have their IDs with them. They can come and collect them any time from 8am to 5pm during my office days which are Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays," Waiguru said.
