Residents of Makongeni area in Thika Sub County within Kiambu County have accused security officers for sleeping on their job.
This comes after on Friday night a prominent businessman was shot dead by armed thugs at his shop in Makongeni Phase 5 estate.
Residents led by James Ng’ang’a said increased crime in the region is due to poor security patrols by police officers.
“Police officers operating in the area are lazy. We are appealing to Interior CS Fred Matiang’i to move with speed and deploy new and experienced police officers to serve in the region because we no longer trust the current officers who have been colluding with criminals to terrorize us,” he said.
Mary Muthoni said traders in the area are no longer safe due to increased crime.
“Thugs have been attacking traders and stealing their property while police watch. We can’t continue losing lives yet we have police officers who should protect us. Criminals should be arrested and jailed,” she said.
She appealed to the area MP Patrick Wainaina to intervene to ensure there is tight security day and night.
“Mr. Wainaina should not keep quiet as innocent locals are losing their lives and property. Traders and locals need to be secure day and night,” she added.
The locals were speaking at Makongeni shopping center on Sunday.
