Residents of Makongeni on Sunday received a variety of tree seedlings that were donated by Kenya Forest Service (KFS), Thika West sub-county.
Speaking while giving out the seedlings, Thika West Deputy Forestry Officer John Kariuki asked residents to take advantage of the ongoing rains in the area to plant them.
"We are happy by how the residents have come out to take the seedlings and we hope with the same spirit they have come to pick them, they will plant them," Kariuki said at Makongeni Dispensary grounds.
He noted that the seedlings were not enough as they were using a pre-prepared list and only those who were enlisted got the seedlings.
Kariuki asked those who did not get the seedlings to enlist themselves at Makongeni Chief's camp to be considered in the next issuance.
"We would want everybody interested in the seedlings to register at the chief's camp so that next time we will know the number of seedlings to bring", he said.
Makongeni Chief Daniel Waiguru who was present warned beneficiaries against selling the seedlings but plant them in their farms.
