Residents of Makongeni in Thika Sub County have complained over deteriorating security and want police to act.

According to the residents cases of crime are steadily increasing in the area.

Speaking to this writer on Wednesday, the locals lamented alleging that criminals are freely moving and causing havoc in the area.

The locals said cases of mugging and robbery have increased adding that despite police patrols, criminals still cause them sleepless nights.

“Law enforcers should come to our rescue and arrest criminals who are behind criminal activities in this area,” said Patricia Wangari, a charcoal seller at Makongeni estate.

Ms Wangari said most small scale traders are forced to close their businesses early for fear of being attacked and robbed.

“Police officers should streamline security and guarantee pour safety,” said Faith Karimi, a resident.

The locals spoke as a body of a middle aged man was found dumped along the road in the area.

“We have been experiencing various cases of people being mugged and injured by criminals in the last two weeks and there is need for law enforcers to increase patrols and deal with criminals causing havoc,” said Humphrey Kinyanjui, a bodaboda operator in Makongeni.

Mr Kinyanjui said most criminal activities are being perpetuated by young boys aged between 15 and 25.

He added that several cases of bodaboda riders being attacked and robbed by goons had been reported in the area.

The locals spoke as a body of a middle aged man was found dumped along the road in Makongeni estate on Tuesday morning.

According to locals, the body of the deceased had cuts on the forehead and the neck.

Jospeh Kariuki, a Nyumba Kumi coordinator in Makongeni appealed to locals to share information with the police.

He said the move will ensure that police respond promptly to cases of crime.

Last week a body of a middle aged man was found dumped in 20 feet pit in the neighboring Kiandutu slums.

On Thursday last week, Thika Deputy County Commissioner Mr John Anjera said police will not relent in fighting criminals.

He said security patrols and surveillance will be heightened in the sub county and urged locals to partner with the police as they fight crime.
