Makongeni residents have expressed their disappointment with many county government projects in the area that have been going at a snail's pace while others remain a distant dream even after numerous empty promises from the government.
Among the projects that residents say have been abandoned by the county government are feeder roads which are essential when manoeuvring within the estate.
"The county government officials and our MCA have made it a habit of coming here especially on weekends to cheat us that the roads will be fixed soon. Soon that never materialises. We are now some months to the elections and our roads continue to get worse," Esther Waitherero, a Makongeni resident said on Monday.
Kamenu MCA Elizabeth Muthoni has been quoted several times saying that various feeder roads were going to be fixed but residents say that only a few have been attended to.
"It is easier said than done. That is all I can say in reference to the MCA's endless promises on feeder roads," Samuel Gachihi, another resident said.
A visit to various phases and sections of the wider Makongeni estate indeed reveals that many roads are yet to be fixed.
"The contractors will soon be on the feeder roads that were destroyed by the El~Nino rains to fix and make them passable," the MCA said at the beginning of the year.
Residents are still waiting to see the MCA's promise being fulfilled.
