Makongeni residents have been urged to make use of the BAT junction footbridge when it's finally completed in a few weeks time.
Kamenu MCA Elizabeth Muthoni has said the footbridge is near completion and residents will now be crossing the busy highway safely.
"Our long wait for a footbridge along the BAT junction is near fruition and my appeal to all residents is that we make use of the footbridge and avoid the risky dash along the dangerous highway," she said on Wednesday.
She noted that many people think that using footbridges is a waste of time and energy.
She said footbridges save lives and should not be ignored by pedestrians.
"There should be no reason why lives should be lost when we have a footbridge here. Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has also promised us two more other footbridges near Bidco and Gatitu junctions and residents should make use of them when they are finally put up," she said.
The MCA said that the footbridge will be a major reprieve to Kenyatta Girls students and Kenyatta Primary School pupils who have to cross the busy highway every morning and evening while going to and leaving school.
