The MCA also wants the government to stop sending condolences messages and instead apologize to the affected families and Kenya as a whole.

Speaking in a phone interview, Mutula said that the tragedy was caused by impunity and repercussions of compromised public officers.

"The Solai dam tragedy is as a result of impunity and repercussions of compromised public officers. Let the government stop making noise concerning this matter and compensate the affected families as well apologize to all Kenyans," she said.

The nominated Ward representative further wondered why the killer dam was still operational despite being declared illegal by the Ministry of Water in October last year as claimed by government officials.

"If the Water Ministry through its authority declared the dam illegal in October last year, what happened and who authorized its operational against the government’s order up to yesterday, who is fooling who here?" posed Mutula.

She also asked the government to find serious dam specialist to work on the proposed Thwake dam project in Makueni to avert a similar tragedy.

"If Thwake is two times bigger than Solai then we need serious dam specialists to work on it and not tribal looters who have been sent there to give tenders to their tribesmen."
