Makueni MP Dan Maanzo has joined the ongoing constitutional amendment debate, rallying behind the referendum push.
The push is being spearheaded by a section of opposition leaders who are calling for the expansion of the executive, stressing on the need for the reintroduction of the powerful Prime Minister post and demotion of the presidency.
Speaking on Radio Citizen's Debe La Citizen on Sunday, the Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's ally lauded the move, noting that it will eradicate the recurrent electoral dispute menace.
Maanzo observed that the nation has to embrace the proposed changes, failure to which elections at the presidential level will retain their complexity, with the situation likely to worsen in the future.
"The nation badly needs to review it's governance system failure to which presidential polls will keep being problematic in the future. We need to make the post less lucrative to avoid the usual scramble," Maanzo said.
He termed the proposal as the best remedy for the exclusion feeling among a section of Kenyans, observing that it's mission to bring on board more leaders will be beneficial.
"By including more leaders in the government, we will have given it a national look as opposed to the current situation where the national leadership can only be associated with a group of ethnic communities," added the lawmaker.
