Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior has said the National Assembly should conduct a censure on Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i for the importation of 'poisonous' sugar.
In his tweet on Tuesday, Kilonzo said the constitution gives power to the National Assembly to censure cabinet secretaries for gross misconduct.
"Article 152 of the Constitution gives Power to National Assembly to censure Cabinet Secretaries for gross violation of the law. I cannot think of anything grosser than the importation of poisonous sugar," Kilonzo said.
On Monday, Kilonzo urged the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) to swing into action due to the fact that sugar was transported like sand together with coal and fertilizer.
He called for the overhaul of Kenya Bureau of Standards with immediate effect for failing in its duties.
"Dear DPP, the statement that sugar was transported like sand together with coal and fertilizer should be a cue for you to swing into action. Kenya Bureau of standards must be overhauled with immediate effect. Kenyans lives matter," Kilonzo said.
This comes just a day after over 12,000 bags of contraband sugar were nabbed at Primarosa Flowers in Athi River, Machakos County on Monday.
