The County government of Makueni, through the Department of Health Services, unveiled a progressive four-year Family Planning Costed Strategic Plan 2016-2020.
The major aim of the strategic plan, which is already under implementation, is to improve the Socio-economic well being of Makueni residents by expanding access to family planning information and services, without coercion, to attain a contraceptive prevalence rate of 72 percent by 2020.
Speaking during the unveiling of the Strategic Plan, governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana said family planning had proven to be the most cost-effective intervention in preventing maternal deaths.
He said it also contributes to reduced child mortality, unplanned pregnancies and unsafe pregnancies.
Kibwana noted strategic plan would guide the institutionalisation of adequate policy, legal and institutional framework for family planning.
According to him, the successful implementation of the plan will contribute towards the achievement of Makueni County's Vision 2025 of building a Prosperous value based County, with a high quality life.
The event held at Sultan Hamud, was graced by Prof Kibwana and Jhpiego Country director Dr Mildred Mudany.
