Residents of Makwa Location in Gatundu North have lamented over the increased insecurity in the area, and have urged leaders to step in and help the situation.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday, the residents noted that Kanjogo, Mununga and Magumu villages are the worst affected, with cases of crime being reported almost on daily basis.
“A woman and her daughter were mugged recently and all the money they had withdrawn from the bank for school fees was stolen,” said Peter Mburu, a resident.
They add that their frequent appeals to the Police and local administration to heighten security have gone unanswered.
“Just the other day, a widow in my neighbourhood was attacked by robbers in her homestead and she was stabbed several times. But since the matter was reported, we have not seen any action,” said Lydia Wanjira.
They now want the Police at the Makwa Police Post transferred from the area, accusing them of failing to do their job.
“As women, we are unable to move around because we fear that we could even be raped. Let the government do something,” said Naomi Wanja.
