Kenyan ambassador to Tanzania Chirau Makwere has dismissed claims that he was motivated to join ODM after Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya joined Jubilee PartyMakwere is set to challenge Mvurya in August and has expressed his optimism that the opposition will beat Jubilee government.
“I consulted my people and they told me to join any opposition party. The government has lost ground especially in the coastal region and I am seeing a victory for opposition flag bearer,” he said.
The renowned diplomat added: “I was intending to join Wiper Party before Mvurya defected from ODM. The Orange party has a massive following in my county though.”
In 2013, Makwere, a former critic of opposition leader Raila Odinga, contested for senatorial seat on a URP ticket and lost to ODM’s Juma Boy Juma.
Till his defection, the former Matuga MP was pivotal for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s campaigns in the coastal region.
