15 people have died of Malaria in Dukana, Illeret and North Horr wards, Marsabit County following an outbreak in the last one week.

Marsabit County director of preventive health services Dr. Boru Okutu said 136 patients have been tested positive of malaria.

Two deaths were reported in Illeret and 13 others died in Dukana and North Horr.

County public health officer Adano Kochi said the affected areas is vast and most people live up to 70 kilometres from medical facilities.

Kochi said the patients get the dispensaries in critical conditions and others die once they arrival at the facilities.

"County governor Mohamud Ali has asked ministry of health for support in handling the crisis. Kenya medical supplies authority and the Kenya Red cross are set to deliver medical supplies to handle the emergency," said Kochi.

Governor Ali last week said health officers will be deployed in the area to help curb the crisis.
