Kenyan men will be part of a research that is meant to rule the efficacy of the a new male contraceptive.

This treatment could bring another non-evasive option to the mix of the male contraceptive that is ongoing which is a hormonal gel which reduces sperm count when applied to the skin.

The study will be done by researchers from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and they will be running the trials on this gel which has been under development for some years.

According to the team, they conducted a trial which involved a combination of two gels that successfully saw the number of sperms in their semen drop to less than 1 million per milliliter.

The gel contains a combination of synthetic versions of hormones which are progesterone and testosterone.

The added boost of testosterone enhances the balance of the hormones throughout the body.

The instructions are that the men rub half a teaspoon of the gel each day onto a body part such as the upper arms or shoulders which should keep the sperm levels down for a couple of days.

This study is meant to take place in a few hundred partnered test subjects such as in the US, Chile, UK, Italy and Kenya.

Male contraception is limited to condoms or vasectomy which is a surgical sterilization method for males.
