The Kisumu county Malinda youths from Alive Today youth group have embarked on joint vegetable plantations in order to improve the food surplus in the market.
The Alive Today youth group chairperson Robert Otieno while speaking to this Hivisasa writer in Nyalenda on Saturday morning in the farm noted that agriculture was a major investment since it not only brought in money but also improved the food security in the area. He further challenged locals not to leave lands bare but instead make profitable use of them.
He said that they had plans of investing more on horticultural farming as well and therefore asked well wishers to help fund their projects as they required capital. He further said that their move of venturing into agribusiness was aimed at empowering themselves by curbing idleness and dependence noting that they were progressing well so far.
“Agriculture is one of the investments that can change lives for the better; we therefore want to urge the county leadership and other leaders to make sure that they sensitise the community as well as initiate agricultural projects in the area,” said Otieno.
According to him, most of the youths depended on white collar jobs that are competitive but with mostly little profit hence leading to frustration instead of considering self employment.
