A Kenya Certificate of Primary Education ( KCPE) top performer has reasons to smile against after Machakos Deputy Governor Engineer Francis Maliti pledged to pay his fees in secondary school.
The student, Peter Mwala, scored 350 marks in KCPE last year but he was unable to join high school because of the lack of fees.
The former student at Kwa Mutula Primary in Mbiuni, who hails from Itikoni village, was given an opportunity to join Machakos School for his secondary education. Maliti also revealed that the student wants to become an engineer when he completes his secondary education after the sponsorship.
The second in command at the county level has promised to mentor him until he is through with his education.
“The boy who aspires to be an engineer is under the care of his has grandparents. I have taken up the responsibility of catering for his education through high school and beyond. I will also mentor and support him in whichever way I can so as to enable him to achieve his life goals, “he said.
The Deputy Governor also said that the county government is committed to assisting needy and brilliant students to pursue their education.
