The Kiandutu Outreach Project (KOP) has launched a malnourished children program to cater for the children under age of 5 in Kiandutu slums in Thika Sub County.

The program help the Kiandutu slum children who are suffering from lack of nutritional thus causes various disabilities to help feed them with nutritional meals to attain normal nutritional status.

According to the chairman of KOP James Mwangi, the children are identified by the Macheo’s fieldworkers in the community and forwarded to the organization.

Mwangi said that the KOP program is still in the early stages of development and the dedication of the community has really been a heart moving due to their contribution towards the organization.

He has expressed his concerns with malnourished children in slum dwellers due to poverty and said that the generation is fading out if appropriate measures will not be set in place.

The KOP chairman who was speaking on Monday at KOP Facility in Kiandutu slums in the outskirt of Thika town revealed that the parents and guardians are trained alongside their children on child development, nutrition hygiene and other related illness.

He said that the guardians and parents are the most important people in the child development and its only them who will decide if they want their children to be well.

Mwangi noted that the training of the guardians has immensely helped many children in the society and exposed that soon they are planning to establish a sensitization program to help young parents who are affected by the illness.

He has called on the county government and Kiambu leaders to come out handy in assisting them in the program saying that it’s too expensive and they only rely n well wishers across the region.
