Speaking to the press at Ithookwe showground, Malombe said that the driver accidentally ran over Mwangangi after the angry mob stoned the mirrors thereby making him lose control.

“I was told the demonstrators stoned the fire engine and broke a window. He accidentally ran over her after losing control of the truck,” he said.

The outspoken governor also urged journalists not to report incidences until they get facts right. “You must refrain from skewed reporting to suit the selfish agendas of some politicians,” he said.

Later on during the day, Malombe had it rough after he ran into former Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu at the former Mayors home.

The two leaders exchanged bitter words with Ngilu asking Malombe to take responsibility of the death.

“Nobody can convince me it was an accident because I saw what happened,” said Ngilu.

She added: “The driver plowed into the crowd unprovoked. It is a miracle that I am still alive.” Malombe rubbished that claims saying, “I beseech you to stop making hasty accusations and allow police to conduct investigations,” he said.
