Kitui Governor Julius Malombe has hit out at Members of the County Assembly (MCA) for being used by a section of outsiders to reject elders’ recruitment in the 247 villages of the region.
Speaking in Nairobi on Monday annual consultative meeting between his county’s executive and assembly, Malombe said that the MCAs do not have the interest of their people at heart adding that they are being manipulated by outside forces instead of concentrating on matters of development.
“Outside powers think the elders can campaign for sitting MCAs and the incumbent governor. Outsiders have infiltrated the place and are trying to control the county assembly’s agenda,” he said, as quoted by the Star.
The governor noted that the county assembly has declined to approve the recruitment of the elders over a month after being presented with a memo.
He further called upon the MCAs not to allow outsider to influence their decisions.
According to Malombe, the fight with the MCA is among the reasons why the region has continued to lag behind when it comes to matters of development.
His remarks were backed by Ngomeni MCA Nzungi Ngwelle who confirmed that a section of MCAs have fallen prey of outsiders.
