Kitui Governor Julius Malombe on Friday insisted that he will not bow out of the race to defend his seat during the next general polls.

Speaking during the closure consultative meeting between executives and the assembly at a Nairobi hotel, Malombe said that he has done a lot for the people of his home county and he deserves another term in office.

According to Malombe, his unparalleled development is a clear indicator that he is a performer. The outspoken governor added that the region’s economy has grown since he took over power after the last general polls.

The governor said that in 2022 he will hand over leadership to a young and energetic leader with the capacity to continue with his legacy and not old men like Senator David Musila.

“I cannot bring myself to terms with the prospect of handing over the baton to a person who is older than me. It would be a grievous mistake for the Kitui people,” he said, as the Star quoted him.

Musila, who is aged 74, has affirmed that he will battle it out with Malombe for the county’s top seat during the August elections. The battle for supremacy between Malombe and Musila has caused a storm in Wiper.
