There was no show in the planned Kitui gubernatorial debate after all the three candidates failed to turn up to outlined their agenda for the county.

Incumbent governor Dr.Julius Malombe, Former Lands Minister Charity Kaluki Ngilu and Senator David Musila all did not appear for the debate.

The decision of the three not to attend the event angered different sections of people especially the youths who were anxiously waiting for them.

Speaking in Mwingi town after waiting for hours for the three aspirants in vain, the youths expressed their disappointment. Led by Youth leader Krenes Mutinda, the youths said that it was unfortunate for the trio to ignore the debate.

“Up to 70 per cent of the registered voters in Kitui county are youths. They will determine the next occupant of the governor’s seat. We have the numbers and we are formidable.”

The convener of the debate, Christine Kalikanda from NGO Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education, was also unable to explain why the three had decided not to attend the debate despite having confirmed their attendance.

The three have, however, remained confident that they will win the forthcoming general elections when that time comes.
