Kitui Governor Julius Malombe has called upon Kamba people living in Garissa County to register as voters in order to take part in the next general polls.
Speaking during a meeting with the Kambas residing in Garissa, Malombe said that it is not mandatory for them to travel for long distances to vote when they can do the same there.
“You do not have to go home and register to vote for Malombe or [David] Musila in Kitui. Remain here and exercise your rights to participate in elections,” Malombe said, as quoted by the Star.
The outspoken governor also reminded the Kambas to co-exist peacefully with the indigenous people as the nation looks forward to the next general polls.
This comes after an audio clip surfaced online inciting residents of this county not to pave way for Kambas to register as voters so that they can exercise their democratic right.
The voice was linked to Garissa Township MP Aden Duale. Duale has, however, distanced himself from the audio clip terming it as a plot to bring him down politically as he seeks to defend his seat.
Malombe and Kalonzo were hosted by Garissa Governor Nathif Jama. Duale is set to lock horns with Wiper Party’s Farah Maalim.
