The Ministry of Education has provided a grant of Sh100 million to assist in relocating Mama Ngina girls secondary school in Mombasa to a new piece of land.
Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said the government has purchased a 10 acre piece of land in Shimo La Tewa to build the school.
Speaking at Mama Ngina secondary school on Wednesday morning, Mr Matiang’i said the institution will have a section for day scholars.
He said President Uhuru Kenyatta will come to lay the foundation of school within one month for construction to start.
Mr Matiang’i said coast leaders have been asking the government to relocate the school to a bigger piece land to accommodate the large number of students and also for more resources to be allocated to the students.
“I promise you the government is going to ensure that by January 2019 you relocate to a new piece of land. The government has already allocated 22,240 shillings as tuition fee for each of the student.”
“The plan that president has is that in the new site, we should build a huge facility that will accommodate more girls,” said the education CS.
The school principal Mwanahamisi Omar said that the school lacks recreation facilities due to inadequate space and they are forced to hire a pitch twice a week to enable students participate in sports.
“The school has limited space and we have many students. The school expansion will save us the expense of hiring Mbaraki Sports ground for co-curriculum activities,” said the principal.
