Mama Sarah Obama is among Kenyans to be feted during this year's Mashujaa Day celebrations to be held on October 20, in Machakos.
According to Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Sarah Obama will be honored for her contribution in supporting vulnerable children and orphans.
Speaking on Saturday during the launch of a Sh2.1 billion water project at Senator Barrack Obama Primary School at Kogelo village in Siaya, Wamalwa said Nyanza region is on the global map for producing distinguished leaders.
He also recognised the roles that Nyanza leaders played in the liberation of the country.
For example, he was quick to praise Cord leader Raila Odinga and Siaya Senator James Orengo.
"James Orengo was my teacher when I was pursuing my law degree," he said.
Mr Wamalwa further asked the region to invest in education to revive the region's lost academic glory.
The former Saboti MP said the President will soon visit Nyanza region to commission several water projects that will benefit the residents who have in the past faced acute water shortage.
On her side, Mama Sarah Obama asked the government to support her foundation that seeks to help vulnerable children access education.
