Residents of Mamboleo area in Kisumu have protested against the sorry state of Mamboleo-Chemelil-Muhoroni Road.

The residents blocked the road and planted bananas and other plants on the road paralyzing transport in the area. The protestors mainly matatu operators said they are unable to work since most of the vehicles break down as a result of the poor state of the road.

Charles Okana, chairman of matatu operators in the area, said time is wasted on the road as motorists try to negotiate the numerous potholes on the road.

“We decided to plant trees and bananas on this road because it now looks like a farm. The road is terrible,” he said.

He said many motorists are prone to attacks from thugs in the area due to the bad road. He appealed to the national government to priorities the road and have it tarmacked.

Okana further asked the political leadership in the county of Kisumu to push the national government to avail funds for the road.

“We all know that this road is the function of the national government but we are appealing to the county leadership led by Governor Jack Ranguma to talk to the national government to construct this road,” he said.

The locals are threatening to start tilting the road if the government.
