Residents of Mamboleo in Kisumu City have raised a red flag over what they term recklessness by Bodaboda operators in the area.
The residents say that, the operators who rarely adhere to traffic safety regulation are endangering the lives of the locals considering that there is a poor road connection in the highly congested area.
According to the residents, the number of Bodaboda operators in the area keeps on rising daily, adding that a number of those operators are not qualified therefore worsening the situation.
“In the morning we see people teaching each other how to ride a motorbike, then the following day you see the same ‘students’ on the road transporting people, surely is this the way to conduct business even if it is for the money?,” posed Helen Mutuku resident.
The operators are said to be riding at high speeds even in places with a lot of people and it is the greed for money motivating them to speed for them to go back for more passengers.
“Some of these operators do not care if there are children ahead or not, they just manoeuvre among them at a speed,” said Abisolom Otieno.
The most notorious Bodaboda operators are those believed to be primary school drop outs who believe that the business is lucrative.
The residents are now urging the area Police Bosses to do something about the issue as soon as possible to avert the dangers posed by those recklessness operators.
