A 23-year-old man was on Wednesday sentenced to serve 30 years in prison after being found guilty of defiling a 13-year-old girl.The prosecution told the court that the accused, Alphonse Mlando, was arrested for defiling the standard four pupil between March 10 and 11 at Mishomoroni area in Kisauni, Mombasa County.Mlando pleaded guilty when he appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Edgar Kagoni.He asked the court for a lenient sentence, arguing that he was led by the devil to commit the crime.In his ruling, Magistrate Kagoni dismissed Mlando’s plea, adding that the accused must be jailed to serve as an example to other perpetrators of the crime as well as protect other girls in the area.“People like you ought not to be mixed with the rest of the society but kept away to protect other girls because you defiled a minor who was in school uniform,” said the magistrate.Mlando has 14 days to appeal the ruling.Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
