A forty-year-old man was on Tuesday arrested in Kangundo sub-county, Machakos county for defiling a six-year-old nursery kid.
According to area subchief Dorothy Kisaingu, the man is said to have waylaid the kid as she was heading to school where he commuted the heinous act.
Mrs.Kisaingu confirmed that the nursery teacher noticed the young girl was limping where after much persuasion she was able to get the wind of what had transpired.
She said that the young girl was examined in Kangundo hospital where the doctor confirmed that the girl had been sexually assaulted.
The suspect is being held at Kangundo police station awaiting to be arraigned in court on Wednesday.
However, in an interview with the children officer in Kangundo sub-county Susan Ouma, she disclosed that defilement cases are slowly rising due to residents covering such incidents when the occur in fear of shame or stigma.
She also warned residents against reporting such cases to the Chiefs and instead go directly to the police for investigations.
"Once a defiler always a defiler and no one should negotiate with such kind of a person, let the law take its course that's why we have the courts," she added.
