Eye witnesses said the suspect forced the elderly man identified as James Kiragu, to smoke one roll of bhang, but when he declined, he attacked him with a hammer that he was carrying.

“He killed him instantly with the hammer that is used to crash stones,” said John Muchiri.

One of the residents, who had rushed to save the man, has been admitted to Molo District Hospital with head injuries after he was attacked by the suspect as he tried to save the deceased.

The suspect was, however, overpowered by residents who heard the commotion and was subjected to mob justice.

“We don’t have faith with the police. The suspect was drunk, and a drug addict. He attacked the old man on his way to the shop,” one residents said.

Police from Molo police station found him unconscious, and took him to the district hospital but was later transferred to the Nakuru Level Five Hospital for further treatment.
