The suspect is said to have entered the house of 24-year-old Edward Kinyanjui in Zambezi at around 7am while armed with a panga and in the company of two other elderly men armed with rungus.

Neighbours of Kinyanjui say they were warned against interfering with the trio and watched helplessly as the men allegedly attacked Kinyanjui.

The man, the neighbours say, claimed that his nephew stole his households and money after a break-in and he suspected that the nephew was behind the robbery.

According to Elizabeth Nyambura, an eye withness, the three men looked drunk when she saw them approaching the house of the deceased.

"They threatened to kill anyone who tried to stop them from the attack. They went in and they all beat him and cut him to death. However, one of us contacted police officers and they responded immediately," said Nyambura.

Confirming the incident in his office on Tuesday, Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweu said that the 60-year-old man was arrested whereas the two alleged accomplices escaped. He said that police are already in the lookout and he assured they will be arrested.

"The man was drunk when he was arrested and it is unfortunate that alcohol abuse could have been the cause of such a crime. Residents also claimed the two other elderly men looked drunk," said Maweu.

He said that investigations are underway and the man is in police custody as the other two are being haunted. The body of the deceased was taken to Kikuyu Hospital Mortuary.
