Police in Kilifi South Constituency are investigating an incident in which villagers killed a 70-year-old man accused of practicing witchcraft.
The man, Munga Mwandoli, is reported to have been hit on the head with a hammer by angry residents, who blamed him for the death of Alex Kiti, a villager.
Addressing journalists on Sunday, Kilifi OCPD Alexander Makau said the police are probing the matter.
The OCPD said officers from Kijipwa Police Station went to the scene after they were informed about the incident, and took Mwadoli to Oasis Medical Centre where he died on arrival, the Standard reports.
“Our team is on the ground and we are going to arrest all immediate family members for interrogations. This is a family set-up and they must tell us what transpired and the people who are responsible for the old man’s murder,” said Makau, as quoted by the daily.
